From Coast to Coast

The Performance was a part of an exhibition Umhverfing 3 in Snæfellsnes

The work was a performance on a beach in the west of Reykjavík, a beach facing Snæfellsjökull Glacier. Participants made a hole in the sand in the shape of a spine fetus. The 52 fetuses were then placed on the beach at Búðir in Snæfellsnes. The work reflects on the human need to belong – to a family, a land, or a community – and on the pain that follows when those bonds are severed. To trace one’s lineage is a privilege, offering safety, pride, and gratitude. When that foundation is lost, a person is left rootless, displaced, caught between lands and homes. The performance is a meditation on belonging, loss, and the search for home in a world where so many are forced into exile.
