Ode to Mother
Ode to Mother (Óður til móður) was a live performance and installation by artists Guðrún Vera Hjartardóttir and Sigrún Úa Halldórsdóttur, presented as part of the group exhibition Under the Open Sky (Undir berum himni) during the 2013 Reykjavík Arts Festival. Taking place in public spaces and private gardens throughout the city center, the exhibition showcased the rich diversity of Iceland’s contemporary art scene, spanning sculptures, paintings, street art, and performances.
In Ode to Mother, the artists walked through the historic Þingholt neighborhood, gathering discarded objects and litter from the city streets. Their journey culminated in a private courtyard within the neighborhood, where they used the collected debris to construct a beautifully shaped tree, ultimately enveloping it in a golden aura with gold spray paint.
